Membership is open to:

  1. all Malaysian citizens above 18 years old,
  2. all Malaysian teachers of English,
  3. all Malaysians who are professionally concerned with English language education,
  4. all others residing in Malaysia and interested in English language education.
  5. all institutions or organisations that conduct business or activities in the English language, and/or have an interest in the promotion and advancement of English language education.

The Association is open to the following two general membership categories:

  1. Life Membership – Life members are members who have paid the prescribed Entrance Fee and Life Membership subscription
  2. Annual Membership – Annual members are members who have paid the prescribed Entrance Fee and Annual Membership subscription

The Association membership shall be further defined to the following:

  1. Full Membership: These are Malaysian individuals who are professionally involved in the teaching of English language and education in the English language in Malaysia. Members shall be either Annual members or Life Members. Members shall enjoy the full benefits of the Association activities, have voting rights in the AGM and are eligible to hold office in the MELTA committee.
  2. Affiliate Membership: These are Malaysian individuals who are not professionally involved in English language education in Malaysia. Members shall be either Annual members or Life members. Members shall enjoy the full benefits of the Association activities, have no voting rights in the AGM and are not eligible to hold office in the MELTA committee.
  3. Associate Membership: These are non-Malaysian individuals residing in Malaysia. Members shall be either Annual members or Life Members. Members shall enjoy the full benefits of the Association activities, have no voting rights in the AGM and are not eligible to hold office in the MELTA committee.
  4. Institutional Membership: This membership is granted to educational institutions and organizations involved in the teaching, promotion and advancement of English language education in Malaysia. Membership is renewable annually. Institutional membership privileges the institution with full membership rights and benefits to three currently employed personnel nominated by the management of the institutions. They shall have no voting rights and are not eligible to hold office in the MELTA committee.
  5. Corporate Membership: This membership is granted to all institutions or organizations. Membership is renewable annually. Corporate Membership provides three currently employed personnel nominated by management of the institutions full benefits of the Association. They shall have no voting rights and are not eligible to hold office in the MELTA committee. Membership also offers the institutions or organizations special privileges as per negotiation with the Association.
  6. Honorary Membership: This membership is awarded by the Committee to individuals who are able to make significant contributions to the Association. Honorary Members shall have no voting rights and are not eligible to hold office.

Types of membership and fee structure:

  1. Annual Membership RM40.00 + RM10 entrance fee
  2. 3-year Individual Membership RM110.00 + RM10 entrance fee
  3. 5-year Individual Membership RM180.00 + RM10 entrance fee
  4. Life Membership RM500.00 + RM10 entrance fee
  5. Annual Institutional Membership RM350.00 + RM10 entrance fee
  6. Annual Corporate Membership RM3000.00 + RM10 entrance fee
Note:
Membership is as per Calendar year or part thereof. All annual memberships terminate on 31 December. We strongly recommend applications for 3-year, 5-year,or life memberships.
Entrance fee is payable only once for all categories. However, in the event that membership is not renewed before the expiry date, the entrance fee is applicable.
