In MELTA, we acknowledge that every ELT practitioner has different areas of interests. To attend to these interests, MELTA is pleased to support the creation of Special Interests Groups (SIGs) with the aim of providing opportunities for quality continuous professional development for its members. MELTA currently has three SIG groups (updated December 2020)
TEDBET SIG Leader: Mohana Ram Al Murugiah
The MELTA TEDBET or Teacher Development for Beginning English Teachers is a support group for ELT Practitioners who are new in this profession (typically less than 10 years of teaching experience). In previous years, this group has run two activities annually known as CHILD (Camp House for Innovative Language Development) and Best English Practices Webinar (BeEP). Apart from that, TEDBET has its own WhatsApp group where practitioners engage in discussions on professional development.
M-CALL SIG Leader: Hazelynn Rimbar
The MELTA – Computer Assisted Language Learning SIG or M-CALL is a group of classroom practitioners keen on promoting the use of technology in classrooms. The SIG runs webinars that introduces members to current educational apps or technology which can be used to enhance and accelerate language learning. If you want to keep abreast with the rapid changes in the world of educational technology, M-CALL is the SIG for you.
RE.AD SIG Leader: Noorjahan Sultan
The MELTA Reading Advocates or RE.AD SIG is a group of MELTA members from various walk of lives who are passionate about reading. If you have a soft spot for literacy development, and if you have experiences to share in developing children’s reading proficiency, or perhaps interested in becoming one of our storytellers, do join this SIG and be part of this wonderful community.
