Aims

THE ENGLISH TEACHER (ISSN 0128-7729) promotes effective English language teaching and learning and is intended for teachers and instructors who are primarily involved in teaching schoolchildren and adults. This is a refereed print-based journal published once a year.

Authors are invited to submit articles that provide practical techniques and strategies for ELT, identify effective classroom-tested instructional techniques and/or provide descriptions of procedures that can be implemented in classrooms with a variety of students. Articles may also focus on insights and understanding about ELT research and its application to the classroom. The article must be accompanied by an abstract and a biodata of the author(s).


GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF ARTICLES

Authors of articles for The English Teacher may use the following guidelines to make contributions to the journal.

To promote effective English language teaching and learning

ELT teachers and instructors who are primarily involved in teaching schoolchildren and adults

Focus/ Scope
Practical classroom based applications of ELT theory and research and classroom-based research that has implications for teaching and learning

  • Practical techniques and strategies for ELT
  • Effective classroom-tested instructional techniques
  • Descriptions of procedures that can be implemented in classrooms with a variety of students
  • Insights and understanding about ELT research and its application to the classroom

Examples of titles of articles

  • Teaching EAP to Large Mixed Groups
  • Using mnemonics to Improve Vocabulary, Boost Memory and Enhance Creativity in the ESL Classroom
  • Electronic Literacy: Exploring the Teacher’s Role in English Language Education
  • Teaching Literature through Mind Maps

Number of pages
10 -15 pages, single spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font, excluding references and appendices.


Format and Content of Manuscripts
  1. All articles submitted must be original materials not under consideration or published elsewhere. Authors must state if the article is based on a paper that has been presented at a conference and appears or will appear in the proceedings of a conference.
  2. Authors must use spelling and punctuation that is common to written communication in the UK.
  3. Manuscripts may be submitted via e-mail to the MELTA office.
  4. The cover page should include:
    • A title.
    • Name and institutional affiliation of each author as you would like it to appear in the published version and contact full contact information (full mailing address, telephone/fax numbers and e-mail address).
  5. The second page should include the title and an abstract of not more than 120 words.
  6. The article should begin on the third page.
  7. All references and citations should be checked for accuracy and spelling, and follow the APA format. References in the main text should not be different from those in the reference section.
  8. Foot notes are not acceptable but rather, should be worked into the text.
  9. Articles for The English Teacher that contain quantitative or qualitative analysis or survey research reports must follow research conventions strictly.
  10. A 300 – 350 word biodata of the author(s) must also be provided, appended after the references section.
