Re: Teaching literature is exciting? How Come? Hi Everyone...
Yes... it is exciting to learn literature. Why I said so? It is because literature can talk about anything. Life, culture. feelings and etc. Literature can help us to explore the world without spending money buying the tickets. In classroom, teacher can create many interesting activities in teaching literature. He can ask his students to play, act, sing, draw and etc. Through all the above, surely the students will enjoy learning literature asran 2007 |

Re: Teaching literature is exciting? How Come? Hi asran,
I am so happy to see you here, same goes to my other friends, JainesA98258 and ShafinaShah. Feeling so vibrant here with all of you coming and pouring in here.:) Yes asran, I really agree with you. Literature is fun. But sometimes something that is fun to us might not be fun at all to others. So, just as you said, it is important for us to bear in mind of whom are our clients. We must aware the needs and ability of our students. Instead of one's man show, we should perform more to seek and dig out the best of our students' potential. 'GIVE A MAN A FISH; YOU HAVE FED HIM FOR TODAY.TEACH A MAN TO FISH; AND YOU HAVE FED HIM FOR A LIFETIME'. (ANONYMOUS) Thank you.

Re: Teaching literature is exciting? How Come? Hi, literature fans...
For me I never had the opprtunity to experience the joy neither learning nor teaching the subject. I began to know literature the moment Mr. Vijayan who was my former lecturer in MPTAA, introduced the course outline to us. From what I can remember is that he will divide us into small groups and ask us to discuss the given task before presenting the outcome. Beside being a facilitator, he will guide us by asking questions which I find is one of the approaches that can be used. Interestingly, after the first tutorial class with Dr. Gana I realized that, it is the teacher who plays the most important role in helping his/her students to explore the world of literature. I would say that even the best approach won't work if the teacher himself refuses to be more imaginative and creative. All that our students want is just a little space for them to be more advenrures and imaginative. By doing this, not only they have the freedom to enjoy the reading materials but their derire to know more about the text increases too. This in turn, promotes to a good reading habit. Hence, teachers do affect their students' interest in learning or exploring the journey to reach the "Literature Mount". Thank you... |

Re: Teaching literature is exciting? How Come? This is a wonderful statement! At last someone has realized the situation of teaching literature to students in schools! Bravo! For me, I feel that teachers are the one who understand what he/she is teaching in the classroom. I'm not sure whether the students can follow the lesson in class as they did not know anything about literature!! What they care is to pass their examination! If you want the students to enjoy and appreciate literature in school, I am very sure only 0.01% of them could achieve that! If the teacher wants the students to really understand the objective of reading literature and appreciate the text, a lot more of time and encouragement have to given to the students to at least make out a sense of logic why they are learning literature in schools! During my time when I'm learning literature in form 4 and 5, my thoughts is just to pass the examination and not to appreciate any novels, short stories or poems. Our teachers didn't even teach us how to appreciate literature. What they care is to finish the syllabus.

Re: Teaching literature is exciting? How Come? Hello readers,
I have a better understanding of what literature is all about, ever since it was introduced to me in semester 1. I begin to look at literature as an exciting subject. This is because through literature, I can reach my students better as they can discuss and give their opinion on certain topic. They can relate some of the events in the texts, with their personal encounters and feelings. Hence, giving meaning to the learning process subconsciously. There is never a right or wrong answer in the literature. It is a subject where it allows one to become creative, which helps to build our confidence. |

Re: Teaching literature is exciting? How Come? Good day,
just drop by to say that i'm totally agree with what AhmadHaniff said that, 'teachers have to play better with students, make sure they know the beauty of literature as much as we did'. I think the bottom line is, no matter whether it's literature, maths, history or even biography...it's up for teachers to make the lesson become exciting, invinting and interesting for students to learn! have a nice day...thank you ikhwanhazzadidris |

Re: Teaching literature is exciting? How Come? literature is experience...well then, i do see teaching literature as a way for teachers to share both their academic and life experiences with students... seeing it or putting the lesson in a very linear and direct way might turn to be a big no-no...this is the time in which a teacher can express creatively while delivering the lesson to ensure that they will motivate the students to stay with the class and begin to love literature as well...
more often than not, students tend to perceive literature as a very burdening subject but with a little sense of creativity we,teachers, could help them explore the beauty of literature...

Re: Teaching literature is exciting? How Come? eylo...
teaching literature in exciting ways are very important as to grab students' interests and engage their attention until the class ends...erm..i think that's very important especially if you have to teach students with low level of proficiency..hopefully with exciting activities will help the students to love literature. |

Re: Teaching literature is exciting? How Come? I totally agree that teaching literature can be exciting. Only in literature class that we as teachers, teach something beyond the language itself. We teach the students about the values as well as the different and unique cultures around the world. In the world of literature, you can be anyone or anything you want to be. It is your choice. It is also exciting because by teaching literature, you can discover the true selves of your students as they have the opportunity to voice out their ideas. But still there are some students who do not see literature as fun as we as teachers do. It is the teachers job to make them love it...this is another exciting thing about literature. It is challenging to teach literature but still it is FUN...

Re: Teaching literature is exciting? How Come? what attracted my attention was the statement "literature is experience",well teaching literature is one of the way for students to share their own experiences. It allows the students to know and feel that there are some people out there whom experience the same things. It actually engages both the teacher and students to the text, thus enables them to explore more about the ideology, culture or i might say the parallel experiences which are similar to their own.In a way when the teacher and students work together in exploring a text, the teaching and learning process will be more fun and interesting too.The teacher would want to start by sharing and relating his or her own experiences to the text read in the class. This will eventually make the students to participate as they have an encouragement that their experiences are also closely related or are merely the same with the literary text that they have read and i think this one of the many reasons that makes teaching literature an exciting one. lien wrote: literature is experience...well then, i do see teaching literature as a way for teachers to share both their academic and life experiences with students... seeing it or putting the lesson in a very linear and direct way might turn to be a big no-no...this is the time in which a teacher can express creatively while delivering the lesson to ensure that they will motivate the students to stay with the class and begin to love literature as well... more often than not, students tend to perceive literature as a very burdening subject but with a little sense of creativity we,teachers, could help them explore the beauty of literature...
