The Malaysian English Language Teaching Association (MELTA) will host its 18th International Conference on the theme Aligning Teaching And Learning Effective Methodologies In English Language Education at Puteri Pacific Hotel, Johor Bahru, Johor.


Who will be There
Teachers, teacher educators, researchers, administrators, materials and curriculum developers, and professionals from the corporate sector who are involved in English Language education will be there.

Special Events
The conference also promises activities and competitions for teachers and students. A special feature of the 2009 conference will be a social responsibility event. See Special Events for further details.




IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CONFERENCE DELEGATES

Registration

Level B2, Puteri Pacific Hotel, Johor Bahru

Wednesday, 10 June 2009 4pm –6pmThursday
11 June 2009 7.30 am – 8.30 am
Note: The programme book and conference materials will be provided during registration.

Conference Time
The conference will begin at 8.30 am and will end at 5.30 pm
Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be served throughout the duration of the conference.

Presentations
Paper and Demonstration 30 minutes (allow 5 minutes for Q&A)
Workshop 1 hr (allow 10 minutes for Q&A)

 

Note:

Each presenter is responsible for producing enough copies of handouts. You might want to use the following rough estimate:

Paper & Demonstration Approx. 20 copies
Workshop 30-40 copies

Equipment

All rooms will have LCD Projectors and laptops. The cost of renting any other equipment will have to be borne by the presenters. Those who would like to rent any other equipment, please contact the hotel directly.

Book Exhibition

During the conference there will be a book exhibition and it is usual for publishers to offer books at reduced prices. You might want to keep this in mind when allowing for how much money you want to bring with you, or even make arrangements with your school or institution to purchase the books from the publishers.

MELT-A-HEART - Make a difference this conference!

Participants are encouraged to bring books or educational toys for the MELT-A-HEART social responsibility initiative. With the help of the Johor State Education Department MELTA has identified three schools to benefit from this project. All items donated must be new and not pre-loved. Participants can drop off their items when they register for the conference. Each participant who contributes to this project will be given a 'MELT-A-HEART' sticker so you can proudly display it on your conference name tag.

Conference Dinner

There will be a conference dinner for all presenters and participants on the evening of 12 June 2009. Please inform the secretariat at meltaconference@gmail.com of your attendance. MELTA would like you to come dressed in any shades of red for the conference dinner as this is part of the MELT-A-HEART social responsibility project. Conference Proceedings

A conference CD, consisting of a compilation of presenters' papers (submitted before the deadline of 15 May 2009) will be made available for sale during the conference to all presenters and participants for the price of RM10 at the MELTA publication table. Please make your purchase early as the number of CDs prepared is limited.
